Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. (John 17:24)
If I could summarize this album’s journey in one word, it would be: behold. We look for information; but we gaze for adoration, which brings about transformation. Because discipleship begins with beholding, I love that we get to open the album with a song that focuses our hearts solely on gazing upon the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Precious Lamb. 2 Corinthians 3:18 was foundational in framing our journey; yet it was the desire of God, expressed through Jesus’ prayer in John 17:24, that captured our hearts and gave articulation to our hearts’ longing: We desire to behold Your glory.

Lyrics
VERSE 1
Son of God
Incarnate deity
Obedient
Embracing suffering
On the cross
You wore humility
That we would be forgiven
VERSE 2
Son of Man
Oh what a mystery
Came to serve
Though You are heaven’s King
Once for all
Died for humanity
That we would be God’s children
That we would be God’s children
VERSE 3
Lamb of God
Oh what a sacrifice
Precious blood
That paid the greatest price
That one day
You will receive Your Bride
And we will be together
And we will be together
CHORUS
So we thank You for Your love
The blood that made us one
Father, we desire to behold Your glory
“Precious blood that paid the greatest price / that one day You will receive Your Bride / and we will be together.”
When we sing about the blood of Jesus, our attention is naturally and most often drawn to the cross. But I love that the cross is the engagement pointing to a wedding that is coming, prophesying of the fullness of a promise yet-to-be: that the Lamb will one day have the reward of His suffering, a pure and spotless Bride. On that day, we will behold our beloved with unveiled faces, and we will be together forever.
