The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease. (John 3:29-30)
Greater/Less was birthed from a place of wandering - Upon coming home from a month-long stint at the Penang House of Prayer, the Lord challenged me to set aside a year till I turned 30 to seek Him. It was during this period that John 3:27-30 came alive. In the midst of being jobless and directionless, the words and life of John the Baptist cut deep. To count His success as my joy meant a dying to self. It was one thing to read these verses, but another to live them out. I hit 30 in 2020, and while I’m very much still learning what it means to embody these heavy words, I’ve become more certain of this - He is truly Worth It All.

Lyrics
VERSE 1
I’m not my own
I’ve been purchased with the
Precious crimson
Blood that washed away my guilty stains
What could I bring
To repay this debt I owe?
My rights, my wants
I would gladly give it all for love
PRE-CHORUS
I will take up my cross
Counting the cost, I willingly follow
You, my greatest joy and reward
My King and my God
CHORUS
You are worth it all
You are worth it all
Until my last breath
I’ll confess
You’re worth it all
VERSE 2
I hear the sound
Of voices crying out now
“Prepare the way for the Lord
Our King is coming back”
I’ll raise a shout
An anthem hastening the Day
The Lamb receives
The reward of His own suffering
BRIDGE
What do I have that’s not from You?
I’d lose it all to stand with the Bridegroom
My joy is found in Your success
You become greater, I become less
“I hear the sound \ Of voices crying out now \ Prepare the way for the Lord \ Our king is coming back”
Singing this verse reminds me of a powerful moment during a youth gathering where we responded to the Lord together and prophetically declared over this generation that God would raise up Johns in our midst - young people who were unafraid to rebel against the culture of this world and to stand to be called friends of the Bridegroom. My prayer is that this song would spark that same cry. May He become greater, and we become less.
