Pilgrimage

Words and Music by Si Min Chu and Josh Yeoh.
Listen | Chord Charts

“Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring; the rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.” (Psalm 84:5-7)

The chorus of this song was birthed during a prayer session before church service. We were praying Ephesians 1:17-18 over the church, and it speaks about having revelation and spiritual wisdom of God and our hearts enlightened towards the hope that He has given us. During our songwriting retreat, a common desire of ours was to want more of God regardless of circumstances or emotions and this helped us to frame the context of the verses and the bridge.

Lyrics

VERSE
I won’t settle until I have You
I won’t rest until I see Your face
God, I’ll search for You
More than the deer that pants for water
More than the watchmen who wait for morning light
My soul longs for You

PRE-CHORUS
Pull me closer

CHORUS
Open up my eyes to see Your beauty
Open up my ears to hear Your voice
Open up my heart to know You, Jesus
To follow after You
Jesus, I desire to see Your glory
To behold You to be more like You
Teach my restless heart to love You, Jesus
To follow after You

BRIDGE
How lovely is Your dwelling place
Oh fairest of all men
My soul it longs and even faints
To find that place of rest
I set my heart on pilgrimage
Oh keep me to the end
And I will go from strength to strength
Until we meet again

“Teach my restless heart to love you Jesus / to follow after You”

As we’re all pilgrims on our own journeys, our ultimate goal is to know Him, love Him, and become more like Him. Though our hearts and desires are easily distracted by worldly things, I hope that we will make it our prayer to have none but Jesus.
